On July 17, 2019, Yilan City and Rockville City officially signed a sister city agreement in the United States. Rockville is located on the outskirts of Washington, DC, with a population of about 70,000. The city is close to Washington, the political center of the United States, and residents come from all over the world, with a diverse and active culture. Many Taiwanese-Americans also live here, so it has the title of Little Taipei. In recent years, the city has also held the Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival to promote Taiwanese culture and food, which is widely welcomed by the public, and Yilan City was also invited to send a delegation to carry out artistic and cultural exchanges. The city ranks among the best cities for American families to live in. The business environment is also very friendly, and many world-renowned biomedical and technology companies are gathered.
